Top 5 Hypoallergenic Dogs

(adj): relatively unlikely to cause an allergic reaction

1. Samoyed

The Samoyed is the perfect match for any sneezing hope-to-be-dog-owner. Though they do shed, this breed leaves neither odors nor dander. Samoyeds are known to be extremely laid-back and gentle, often flashing a smile. Averaging 21 inches tall and 40 pounds, they have a thick coat and are perfect for cold weather. With an outstandingly friendly and outgoing personality, Samoyeds are great for families with children. They are also pretty suitable for apartments but are an active breed, so they will need exercise. If you want a fluffy friend to cuddle with, but are battling with allergies, look no further than the Samoyed!

2. Schnauzer

Schnauzers are of the most loving of dog breeds. They will be your loyal companion and never leave your side. With all this love, however, Schnauzers are often stubborn with a very protective temper. Nonetheless, their shed-less coat and energetic personality make them perfect for any dog-lover. Schnauzers, like your daily cup of Starbucks coffee, come in three different sizes: Tall, Grande, and Venti (a.k.a. miniature, standard, and giant).

3. Shih Tzu

Adorable creatures with long, silky hair, the Shih Tzu sheds lightly, and is therefore perfect for those with dog allergies. Nonetheless, their long, wispy coats require a lot of grooming. Shih Tzus tend to be very loving and easygoing; however, they are ill fitted for families with newborns since they can become extremely jealous of babies and toddlers. With such a tiny frame of 11 inches and only 16 pounds, these small dogs are also susceptible to having health problems.

4. Italian Greyhound

Il Italian Greyound è perfetto! Meaning, the Italian Greyhound is the perfect dog breed for all dog-lovers, including those with allergies. Their thin coat and lack of shedding make them sneeze-free. An exceptionally playful and loyal friend, they are also ideal for those with residences that have no yards. Nonetheless, with their thin coat, Italian Greyhounds are not made for those residing in chilly areas, since they are very sensitive to the cold. If you are looking for a tiny pup that is the perfect companion in almost any living situation, the Italian Greyhound is a great choice.

5. Chinese Crested

With nearly no hair at all, the Chinese Crested is the perfect (if not, the most effective) way to avoid dog allergies. Though they do produce dander and tend to be slightly clingy, this dog breed is undeniably affectionate and caring, and is great with children. The Chinese Crested only needs infrequent exercise, making it a great choice for an apartment dog. Only averaging 12 inches in height and 10 pounds, this virtually hairless pup is great for almost any living situation, but be sure to have a sweater handy when it gets chilly!
